Hotel Talk: Scot Toon, General Manager – Kata Rocks Phuket

With 25 years in the hospitality industry, Scot brings a lot of experience to the resort, not just from hotels and resorts but also the airline industry where he spent many years gain valuable customer service experience.

Scot oversees the management and operations of the luxurious and modern Kata Rocks on Phuket’s west coast. Located on the southern tip of the famous Kata Beach where Scot proclaims has the best sunset views on the island.

Scot joined Qantas Airlines after studying hotel management and working with Sheraton and Pan Pacific hotels in his native New Zealand; where he worked in supervisory and management roles within the Flight Attendant department before heading overseas to Australia.

Establishing his career in human resources at Hayman Island Resort in Australia, Scot then went on to further his experience in this field with Stamford Hotels & Resorts in Sydney. Scot then joined Per AQUMM Resorts & Spas in the Maldives as the group’s director of human resources. He later went on to work across the Per AQUUM portfolio as a general manager, opening Dhoni Mighili and The Fortress, helping the resort group gain international recognition. Scot then supported the groups Spa collection operations and resort developments in their head office.

Scot moved to Phuket in 2009. Before joining Kata Rocks, Scot successfully opened and managed the luxury pool villa resort Paresa in Kamala. He lives in Phuket with his wife Donna and their two boys. Scot explains “I believe Phuket is a dynamic island with so much to do and I love welcoming guests to the island to experience everything there is to do here”.

Kata Rocks is a design driven, luxury boutique resort and residence, located directly on the ocean front at the southern end of the famous Kata Beach, along Phuket’s sunset west coast. Comprising of 34 Sky Villas of one to four bedrooms each offering its own private infinity-pool, expansive living and dining area, superbly appointed bedrooms and bathrooms.
