A magical hotel stay demands a sense of arrival. This starts when guests are greeted at Sathorn Pier by their personal butler and a bell boy who to take care of the baggage. They are boarded onto the shuttle boat for the 30minute board ride up river to disembark at the hotels private pier. From there they are taken directly to their spacious suites, romantic pool villas, or the truly unique Connie’s Cottage.

Bill drew inspiration from Musee d’Orsay in Paris for the main residence, to create a serene world capturing the colonial architectural elements that King Rama V brought back to Siam. Its lush in natural beauty yet quite simple with the emphasis was on muted colours, black, white, cream and grey. The result is a big hotel that feels small.

It was  built from new except for the four Thai teakwood houses that Connie Mangskau and dearest friend Jim Thompson brought down river from Ayuthaya to create Connie’s home where she entertained the likes of Jackie Kennedy and William Holden. Much latter Connie sold them to Kamala around the time the hotel was being built. They were a perfect as they offered a stay experience with  another connection to Thai history.
