Hong Kong’s Best of the Best Culinary Awards Winners and Four “Most Liked Chefs” 2016

The winners of the 2016 Best of the Best Culinary Awards were selected at the finals held at the Chinese Cuisine Training Institute recently. Organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and co-organised by The Hong Kong and China Gas Company, this year’s event featured four categories – an egg dish, pork dish, dim sum (rice rolls), and crab dish. A total of 10 dishes received the highest Gold with Distinction Award. The finals also saw the crowning of the four “Most Liked Chefs” in each respective category.

The judging panel, formed by renowned local food critics, celebrity chefs and other personalities, rated the dishes based on various criteria, including taste and smell of the dishes, the culinary knowledge and skills of the chefs, the combination of ingredients and sauces, presentation and creativity. In addition to the Gold with Distinction Award, there were Gold Awards and Silver Awards in each category. For the “Most Liked Chef” award, which was added this year, the selection criteria included appearance, communication skills and personal charisma.

Various dishes given the Gold with Distinction Award will also be available at the Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival, which will be held at the Central Harbourfront Event Space in October. Visitors and local residents can enjoy a 20% discount on the awarded dishes in November as part of the HKTB’s promotion.

Officiating at the launch ceremony of the 2016 Best of the Best Culinary Awards finals were Dr Peter Lam, Chairman of the HKTB (fourth left); Mr Peter WY Wong, Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer – Utilities Business, The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (fourth right); and representatives from the Hong Kong Chinese Chefs Association (Technical Consultant), the Chinese Cuisine Training Institute (Venue Sponsor), and various supporting organisations, including The Association for Hong Kong Catering Services Management Ltd, the Hong Kong Federation of Restaurants and Related Trades, the Association of Restaurant Managers, and the Institution of Dining Art.
