Tak Loi Krathong Sai Festival 2018


Tak is famous for its Loi Krathong Sai or the floating of a thread of krathongs made from coconut shells, a local wisdom that has been passed through generations. This year, Tak Loi Krathong Sai Festival 2018 takes place from 18 to 22 November, at Rim Sai Than Lan Krathong Sai, at the foot of the Somphot Krung Rattanakosin 200 Pi Bridge.

Activities on 18 November include: the processions of the royal trophy, lanterns, and Krathong cups; the processions of Krathong Sai and folk art and cultural performances from the communities; the opening ceremony; and the release of Krathong Sai – 1000 coconut-shell lanterns in line on the river. The processions take place from the Shrine of King Taksin the Great to the main venue.

On 19-22 November, there is a daily dinner of local dishes and the release of Krathong Sai activity at the main venue. Reservations can be made with the Social Welfare Division, Tak Town Municipality, at Tel: +66 (0) 5551 8888.

Other daily activities starting from 17.00 Hrs. onwards include: a ritual to worship Goddess Ganga, the Mother of the River; tasting Tak’s local food at Lan Khrua Krathong Sai, Kat Krathong Sai – a market in the Park in Honour of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s 60th Birthday Anniversary; an exhibition and booths of schools and agencies selling their products; and sales of OTOP goods.
