Sunday Brunch At Bangkok Marriott Hotel The Surawongse Review

Surf ‘n’ Turf Sunday Brunch, a bountiful supply of fresh seafood and premium meats, live music set in a relaxing ambience

By Mr. & Mrs. Tardivel

Led by Executive Chef Attapol Naito Thangthong and Chef Somkid Ketkaew who have revived some of the rarest home recipes from their youth. These include Thailand’s favorite dishes from yesteryear that easily evoke fond memories of the diner’s childhood when Thai mothers or grandmas were responsible for dishing up unforgettable meals for family members.

The Sunday Brunch abounds with local classic Thai dishes and a wide selection of sea and fresh water crustaceans, shellfish and premium meats.

Another highlight is the Oyster Bar offering 4 kinds of oysters on a rotational basis.

The Surf ‘n’ Turf section features the Seafood Wall with 12 kinds of great tasting seafood including sea crabs, tiger prawns, and rock lobsters. Grab one of the colorful buckets, fill it with your favorite seafood items and handle it to the Chef…each bowl color for a different cooking style with different sauces…unless you only want them grilled or steamed.

The Butcher Selection presents 55-day dry-age soft Thai sirloin and steaks from Australia and the United States as well as lamb rib-eye from New Zealand.

Diners will enjoy a number of special dishes cooked live at the Chef’s Signature Station where unlimited lobster delights like gaeng kua koong mangkorn (“spicy curry with lobsters and wild betel leaves”) are offered.

The central island kitchen is a pleasure for the eyes with plenty of seafood and meat flavored cooking action.

You’ll find also your regular pasta, cheese and cold cuts stations. There is no menu to choose from since the lavish buffet has plenty of options to choose from and some of the special item trolleys are coming to your table regularly.

Pastas with variety of sauces, from Tomato, Bolognese, Carbonara, Aglio with bacon sauces….or ask the Chef to prepare your fav Pasta combo….easier!  Try out the fresh Pumpkin soup and meat ball soup.

The Sunday brunch venue has a Chinese corner with some of  Yao’s Restaurant featuring a number of signature dishes from the hotel’s Chinese restaurant.

Praya Kitchen also mimics the street food vibe by offering street food delights such as BBQ pork with sticky rice, deep-fried prawn cakes and fish cakes. The Thai Station also features “Foie Gras with Banana Blossom Salad” and famous “Volcano Chicken”  served from a trolley.

Standout creations are “Hand-rolled Lobster Xiao Long Pao” and “Peking Duck”.

“Volcano Chicken”

The Sunday brunch provides the perfect setting for family get-togethers over a meal as the restaurant has a DIY corner for kids to goof around while their parents and grown-up family members are dining.

Classic dishes made to order by chef Kitt such as Braised pork, Stir fried noodle, Braised lamb…and much more!

After the meal, diners can choose to unwind at the Juice Bar with a live band providing entertainment.

Thai iced tea and coffee

Don’t forget to wash down with Ya Dong, or strong herb-infused Thai liquor that can be enjoyed at no extra cost.

We overall liked the food quality and quantity, the restaurant settings, the entertainment, the comfort and relaxed atmosphere.
