Sa Kaeo was previously a part of Prachinburi province before it was designated a new province in 1993. Sa Kaeo is situated in Eastern Thailand and borders with Cambodia to the east. Aranyaprathet district in Sa Kaeo serves as an important gateway to Cambodia, connecting international transportation and tourism linkages between the two countries. Rong Kluea Market, a border market on the Thai side, is well-known for cheap and second-hand products from various neighboring countries. Some areas in the province were once civilized communities with a long history since there are many historical attractions such as remains of ancient monuments and architectures scattered throughout the province.  Sa Kaeo also possesses abundant natural resources such as Pang Sida National Park and Ta Phraya National Park, as well as unique canyon-like soil sculptures called “Lalu”.

Sa Kaeo is divided into 8 districts; Mueang Sa Kaeo, Khlong Hat, Ta Phraya, Wang Nam Yen, Watthana Nakhon, Aranyaprathet, Khao Chakan, Khok Sung  and 1 minor district, Wang Sombun.
