An FUE Hair Transplant Costs Less Than You May Think

The old days of hair transplants have significantly improved as the techniques and equipment used in the procedure have been upgraded and enhanced.

These days, most of the hair transplants performed are FUE hair transplants. However, the cost of FUE hair transplants depends on which type you have performed. There are two types of basic FUE transplants: shaven and non-shaven. We’ll explain both types so you can decide which type suits your lifestyle better.

.
Shaven FUE Hair Transplants
A shaven FUE hair transplant may be the lowest-cost transplant. In the shaven FUE transplant, the doctor shaves an area on the donor area on the back of the head and the recipient area where the follicles will be transplanted to provide them with better access to the scalp. Because shaving results in the easier implantation of hair follicles, this type of hair transplant provides the highest success rate of all types of hair transplants, which is an added bonus.

The procedure is performed in the doctor’ office or clinic and takes around 6-8 hours or less to perform, depending on the number of grafts required. It also boasts a short recovery time of 1-3 days.

.
Non-shaven FUE Hair Transplants
A non-shaven FUE hair transplant is designed for people who have to maintain a public presence. The procedure uses techniques to hide the effects of the transplant, both in the donor area of the scalp and the recipient area.

The procedure is more difficult for the doctor and takes longer to complete than the FUE-shaven procedure. Therefore, the non-shaven FUE hair transplant is more expensive.

In the non-shaven procedure, the hair follicles are removed from a small shaved patch at the rear of the head that is carefully concealed by the hair growing above it.

The hair follicles are stored in vials in the order they were removed from the scalp to minimize the time they are out of the scalp and increase the procedure’s success rate. Storing the vials is crucial to keeping the follicles alive in the non-shaven hair transplant procedure as it takes longer to implant the hair follicles between existing hairs and have the results remain looking natural.

Because of the longer time required, the procedure can only be done on a limited number of grafts per session, and the entire FUE non-shaven transplant may take more than one session.
