CNN International Names Two Thai Desserts Among World Best

Thailand’s world famous cuisine continues to garner culinary kudos with the latest accolades coming from CNN International with two Thai desserts making its top 50 list.

The award-winning 24-hour news network proclaimed Mango with Sticky Rice and Thapthim Krop as two of the finest sweets that the world has to offer.

According to CNN International, this is why the two desserts are the perfect complement to any delicious Thai meal shared with family and friends:

Mango with Sticky Rice

A ripe, tender dish of Mango with Sticky Rice is among the world’s most perfect desserts. This traditional sweet begins with the glutinous rice that’s grown in paddies across Southeast Asia. The starchy grains are combined with rich coconut milk and palm sugar for a treat that retains a chewy bite even when it’s perfectly soft.

A truly Thai Mango with Sticky Rice dish has just two favoured mango varieties: choose between nam dok mai, a sweet, yellow fruit that’s pertly curvaceous, or ok rong, whose higher acidity offers a pleasant counterpoint to the sweet rice.

Thapthim Krop, Thailand

After a fiery meal of Thai cuisine, Thapthim Krop cools you down with crushed ice and a sweetened coconut liquid infused with pandan leaves.

Often compared with vanilla, pandan has a lilting aroma all its own, but for Thapthim Krop lovers, the “rubies” are the real treasure. For these, water chestnuts are soaked in vivid grenadine syrup, rolled in tapioca flour, and then boiled. The result is a sweet bite that’s both chewy and slightly crunchy with a hint of salt from the coconut broth.
