French St, Bangkok’s New Restaurant: Review 2018

A French culinary journey to a tranquil village in Provence. The approach is casual and diners are encouraged to experience many Southern France flavors, from home made Pate Terrines, Tapenades, Olives,  Seafood soups and more! Portions are generous and perfect to share among friends.

By Mr. & Mrs. Wanida Tardivel

The new wave Gallic eatery  French St tucked away on Rue de Brest (Charoen Krung 36) offers as an authentic dining experience with southern French specialties and a Provence mood. Set amid soft-colored dining rooms, it radiates a casual and tranquil vibe, blended with a color edginess, which succinctly reflects contemporary France.

The whole culinary concept is born to the brainchild of Provence Frederic Guerin who is accomplished in Provencal Fare. This talented chef possesses more than 20 years of experience in French Cuisine. During his career, he took the helm of the kitchens of three Michelin-starred chefs Marc Veyrat, Alain Senderencs, and Pierre Gagnaire

When you arrive,  you’ll feel the casual al fresco lower space with lush greenery. A little “Coin de France”, a great meeting point to catch up with friends  for cocktails at the bar (try the signature cocktails using fresh herbs, Thai fruits, and home-made syrups) or for a casual  and gourmand dinner, enjoy some of St Tropez, Nice, and Marseille specialties, revisited by Chef Frederic Guerin.

If you are looking for a more intimate dining, French St has a great air-conditioned dining room on the first floor, with southern of France deco from olive oil, wine cases and lavender bouquets.

Eco-friendly stylish menu display

Complimentary homemade Limoncello, orange foam and fresh orange zest. Beautiful aroma,  a perfect way to start your night.

The menu is health conscious oriented using a variety of local ingredients, some of which are grown at their own farm just outside Bangkok.

Focus on sourcing is key with a guarantee of chemical and hormone free proteins and the cooking at French St is done with olive oil instead of cream or butter. Some of the must-try dishes for dinner i.e.  Bouillabaisse Soup, a specialty from Marseille…with fresh Mediterranean fishes and slow cooked stock, served with croutons and rouille sauce.

Salmon with Zucchini Spaghetti , Roasted Tomato, Fennel, Roasted Cauliflower Puree

Catch of the day…we had a dozen fresh oysters, Fine de Claire on ice with shallots and peppered vinegar.  Perfect with a glass of the best Rose in town!

The Burrata Salad comes with a tender cheese paired with sweet tomatoes and tossed with Tapenade (spear of black olive)  and basil oil served on flaky puff pastry. Bell Pepper Tartin is a tenderly grilled bell pepper offset by the delicately briny anchovy sitting on freshly baked bread.

Foie Gras Terrine, strawberry jam, peanut butter, homemade Brioche

Truffle Chicken, wild riceberry, local mushrooms, braised rainbow carrots

French ST Paella with mussels, clams, tiger prawns, bell pepper and peas

Their signature dish is a Nougat Glace, inspired by Chef’s Grandmother’s recipe. Overall, the atmosphere of the restaurant was cozy and comfy. We felt so relaxed. All dishes so delicious, the ingredients were fresh, the seasoning was great, the presentation was incredible.

The team has done a great job and were very friendly and helpful. We had a great time to chill and relax on our Friday night

We will be back soon to try out their brunch. We will share this experience with you soon.
